This hairlike, almost invisible strand of nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia is all that remains of one of the most spectacular astronomical events ever seen from Earth. When the supernova that created TychoΓÇÖs Star first appeared in 1572, it outshone every object in the sky but the Sun and full Moon and was easily visible in broad daylight. The nebula was named after Tycho Brahe, the great Danish astronomer who made meticulous notes on the supernovaΓÇÖs appearance. One indication of the explosionΓÇÖs enormous force is that astronomers have been unable to locate traces of the exploding starΓÇÖs core; only the faint nebula remains.
